Invest Talent

Workforce development is economic development.

Invest Talent is a Future Skills Centre-funded pilot that aligns industry needs with practical, skills-first training to accelerate hiring and productivity in the Metro Vancouver region. Employers consistently say that the Metro Vancouver region has incredible talent, and much of that talent comes from the world-class post-secondary institutions that are located here. This workforce has helped companies headquartered here to scale and grow. However, there is also a need to consider how we will meet the demands of the evolving economy.

Over the next 10 years, British Columbia will experience more than 1 million job openings across 64 industries in 500 occupations. The fastest growth will be in the Metro Vancouver region. Rapid advancements in technologies like AI will accelerate the change and cause additional disruptions.

Invest Talent provides a transformative, agile approach to rapidly align training with industry needs, providing both employers and learners with access to the skills needed to succeed in a rapidly changing, global economy.

The Invest Vancouver pilot is focused on the region’s high-tech and life sciences industries. We are launching with two “hubs” — Cybersecurity and Medtech — to convene industry, talent, and partners around industry-specific workforce needs.
